I loved every minute of the experience. Very hands on, very well organised, very informative keepers. Fantastic!
Full on, all day, one to one (plus mum) with keepers and their animals. Everyone enthusiastic and friendly. We hand fed penguins, giraffes, fed hippos, otters, stroked the rhinos, had meerkats and lemurs climbing on us, looked the lions in the eye, and so much more (son enjoyed mucking out various animals) and enjoyed the rollercoasters after! Am booking to take younger son now.

Lions, tigers, giraffes, hippos, meerkats and penguins to name just a few – just your usual North Yorkshire wildlife… We think not! No, these amazing animals, which call Flamingo Land home, are as exotic as they come. And it’s these beautiful creatures, along with many more, that will help make your action packed zookeeper experience one you’ll remember for a lifetime!
Your awesome day kicks off at 09:30 (09:00 in winter) and you’ll soon feel like a real crew member as you go behind the scenes and get some one-on-one time with the animals that other visitors can only dream about. You’ll get some real life zoo keeping experiences as you maintain and clean enclosures, prepare meals and feed a selection of the animals.Starting your day in the farm area will provide a fun introduction to the art of zoo keeping, after which it’s a trip into South America and Australasia for some more exotic encounters. Moving on from there, you might come face to face with the giraffes, hippos or even a rhino – just picture yourself caring for one of these African hulks!
After such a busy morning, you’ll be ready for lunch and a few moments to absorb the incredible things you’ve done so far. Just imagine the tales you’ll already have to tell..! After lunch the action continues as you head to feed the lemurs and meerkats (what a rush!). There will also be opportunities to handle reptiles and feed the penguins. Brilliant! You’ll finish off your unforgettable zookeeper day with some leisure time at Flamingo Land so you can explore the park and zoo at your own pace. If you’ve ever imagined being a zookeeper, then imagine no more…
Flamingo Land Zoo is the UK’s most visited zoo & there is good reason for that! It has over 140 species of animals, including some fan favourites, like giraffes, lions, tigers, monkeys and the list goes on! And whilst it prides itself in being home to rare and exotic animals it also has farm animals, birds & reptiles. Although originally established in 1959, the park has moved with the times, and as you would expect from a modern zoo, works hard to create enclosures that mimic the animals’ homes in the wild and has a strong background in supporting welfare & conservation issues.
Flamingo Land has a theme park and resort on site. It is set on 375 acres, it has over 1000 animals, 100 rides, accommodation options, numerous food and drink outlets and daily performances and events to entertain. As their slogan states, at Flamingo Land Zoo there is ‘so much to discover, even more to enjoy’!
Flamingo Land Resort, Theme Park and Zoo is located on the east coast in North Yorkshire. There are numerous ways to get there as you can reach it by car, train or bus. If going by train suits you, the local train station is at Malton. If you wish to travel by bus the National Express drops off and picks up in York and the Yorskhire Coastliner that drops off at Flamingo Land is available from York railway station. By car, Flamingo Land can be reached via the A64/A170 and is situated off the A169 Malton to Pickering Road.
