"Very Satisfying"

This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. All of the keepers were so helpful, informative and hospitable. We were really well looked after and it was especially nice to know we were supporting the welfare of the monkeys. Loved hearing about all the backgrounds of the monkeys and learning to understand their personalities and complexities. Our favourite part was cleaning out the enclosures!! Very satisfying.

"Brilliant Day"

We had such a lovely day. The Sanctuary is beautiful and the monkey's so cute. The staff are amazing and are obviously 100% committed to ensuring the monkey's have a good a life as possible. We helped clean them out, prepare their food, make enrichment toys and met all the monkeys and heard all about their very sad stories. The staff were very friendly and welcoming which really helped us enjoy our day. The grounds of the Sanctuary are beautiful and compliment the sanctuary. he welfare of the monkey's is key and they are all kept watered, fed and happy which is so lovely to see. We would recommend this day to anyone who loves wildlife and conservation. We can't wait to visit again and are going to sponsor one of the monkey's we met. Thank you for such a brilliant day - well worth the money and a great experience we will always remember.

Fascinating insight to the work of the primate keepers. Some hard work involved, particularly in the morning (cleaning some rooms where the temperature is fairly high). However also very rewarding when you can reflect on how the primates are benefitting from the care and efforts of their keepers (yes, we were one for a few hours!). Gained good insight to how the Sanctuary works, what their prime aims are and how they go about achieving those aims. Very dedicated bunch of workers who were able to share their experiences and the background to the primates. Well done to all involved and thanks for making it such a great day.

"Surrounded by such passion and positivity"

Every single member of staff at the Sanctuary was wonderful, from the moment we arrived to the time we left at the end of the day and every minute inbetween. We couldn't have been looked after any better. The staff there were all so friendly and knowledgeable about the primates in their care. It was a true privilege to spend time with them and the monkeys, and to be surrounded by such passion and positivity.

What to expect on your Primate Keeper Day

A truly inspiring two on one experience with just the two of you and one of The Monkey Sanctuary’s experienced Primate Keepers who are part of the on site Primate Welfare Team. You both will shadow them throughout the day, learning about their work, as well as the work involved in rescuing monkeys within the UK and the global effort to conserve these wonderful creatures.

Your day together will begin well before the sanctuary is open to the public. Upon arrival you will be offered refreshments and meet your experienced Primate Keeper for the day so that they can provide you with an introduction to The Monkey Sanctuary’s work and tell you what you will be doing throughout the day.

This briefing will likely include details about how you will be doing what many might think of as mundane tasks like food preparation, enclosure cleaning and actually foraging for leaves for the monkeys to eat. But don’t worry, time and time again other participants in this experience day have stated that they expected this to be boring but have been pleasantly surprised by how much they learned and gained from the work, as they discovered new and interesting things about primate care and came to understand how truly important this work is. And don’t forget you will also be introduced to all of the primates that will be in your care for the day and each one has its own personal story . After this briefing, you will then begin your day of authentic primate keeping work.

The Monkey Sanctuary has 39 individual primates, made up of Barbary Macaques, Woolly & Capuchin Monkeys that you will be able to meet during your day.  You will be hardpressed finding a favourite though as each one is unique and interesting in its own way, whether they are known for their exuberant personalities or the difficult start to life that they have overcome (as most of the monkeys have been rescued from elsewhere & brought to the park to be rehabilitated).

Once the morning tasks have been done, and already you will have learnt a lot, lunch and refreshments will be provided for you both at the on site Treetops Cafe. You can take this time to reflect on all that you have seen & done so far and compare notes on the individual characters you have met amongst your primate charges.

The rest of the day will continue to be one of real primate care and your Primate Keeper guide for the day will be more than happy to provide you with answers to all of your questions and even answer questions you didn’t even know you had until you found yourself working in the thick of it, getting your hands dirty and really learning about primates.

Finally at the end of the day you both will receive a commemorative certificate to always remind you of your amazing day and a Monkey Sanctuary tee-shirt so you can literally wear your heart on your sleeve, or your back or your front, because seriously if you thought you loved primates before this day, you will find that this experience will take it to a whole new level!

If you and/or your friend love all things primate or just like animals, this is the ultimate day out to share.

Primate Keeper Days - The Monkey Sanctuary
Primate Keeper Day Location
Monkey - Primate Keeper Experience

About the Park

The Monkey Sanctuary also known as “Wild Futures’ Monkey Sanctuary” is set in a beautiful location overlooking the Cornish Coast and amongst woodlands. Monkeys really are their speciality, but there are also gardens, a play area, a cafe, gift shop and also a Wildlife Room housing birds, insects, mammals & amphibians that make their home on the 9 acre property of the sanctuary, as well as a 25 year old colony of the rare lesser horseshoe bat!

As for the 39 individual monkeys on site, they are made up of Capuchin & Woolly Monkeys as well as Barbary Macaques. Each monkey has their own individual personality and as many of them are ‘rescued’ they all have their own personal story and name. The Monkey Sanctuary is all about rehabilitating these unique animals and so when necessary they are kept away from the public in the on site Rescue Centre so that they can recover from any past traumas.

The Monkey Sanctuary is truly a heartwarming & safe haven seeking to improve the lives of monkeys that have had a difficult past.
