Owned by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is the UK’s biggest zoo as it spreads out over 600 acres of beautiful countryside. The wide expanse of the zoo means that there are several ways to get around the park, even though it isn’t a ‘safari park’.
Visitors can walk, they can drive their cars into the park for a fee, they can catch the free Safari Bus available in the zoo or there are even two steam trains to ride on in order to visit your favourite exhibits.
With over 2500 animals on display ZSL Whipsnade Zoo‘s aim is to ‘bring down the bars’ as much as possible, so you can expect to enjoy your day there, as they strive to present “interactive, immersive and inspiring exhibits” to all. A wonderful place to experience being a zoo keeper for a day!
The zoo is located in Dunstable, Bedfordshire which is only 20 minutes from London by train, and a dedicated bus runs from Luton Central Station, Luton Centre, Dunstable and Hemel Hempstead to the zoo every two hours, Monday to Saturday. Alternatively if you want to drive, the zoo is signposted from the M1 and all major roads and is only 25 minutes from the M25 (junction 21).
